Twitter hit by massive overnight outage
Twitter says issues related to an "internal code change" caused the social network to experience a major outage early Tuesday morning, leaving millions of users without access.
Twitter says the outages started at 3:40 a.m. ET, and continued through 9:50 a.m. ET. Some users received error messages when visiting Twitter on the web, while others noticed longer load times for tweets and feeds.
Other services such as Tweetdeck and third-party apps like Tweetbot were also impacted by the outage.
A status update from Twitter posted Tuesday afternoon says the code change was reverted, fixing connectivity issues.
The intermittent access to Twitter is rare for the social network, which has experienced outages in the past that were quickly solved. According to recent Twitter status updates, outages over the past four months lasted between 15 to 45 minutes.
