MPR's '74 Seconds' wins Peabody Award

Since it was released last year, the podcast has been downloaded 2 million times by listeners all over the world.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Tuesday morning, a team of five journalists at MPR won the most prestigious award in broadcast media for their podcast, 74 Seconds, which told the story of the Philando Castile shooting in great detail.

The podcast went beyond the facts of the case and explored all of its aspects and how they intersect: race, policing, justice and safety in America.

Since it was released last year, the podcast has been downloaded 2 million times by listeners all over the world.

The Peabody selection team said this about choosing 74 Seconds as a winner in the podcast category:

“This remarkable podcast series puts a human face on the tragedy, providing context for the legal and political struggles that followed with excellent on-the-spot reporting and a balanced approach to understanding both men involved in the event.”
