Fishermen rescued as storms slam Twin Cities

Some much-needed rain fell in central Minnesota Thursday evening, bringing with it high winds heavy rains and even small hail.

MINNEAPOLIS - Firefighters rescued three people fishing from rushing water at Minnehaha Park Thursday evening as storms rolled through the Twin Cities.

The anglers became trapped while fishing below the falls on the spillway of Minnehaha Creek and were swept away during heavy rainfall.

Minneapolis Fire said crews responded to the scene with Park Police around 8 p.m. and found the three victims clinging to a debris gate near where Minnehaha Creek joins with the Mississippi River.

Fire Capt. Staffan Swanson says the three were able to hang on to the gate and yell for help. Park Police received the 911 call and were first on the scene, and after using life jackets and rope to secure the victims, Minneapolis Fire pulled all three fishermen to safety.
