Edina officer hit by distracted driver

The officer and the driver of the other vehicle were both wearing their seatbelts at the time and thankfully, only suffered minor injuries.

EDINA, Minn. - Another incident of distracted driving has police issuing a warning to motorists -- "Your phone is not this important."

And this time, it happened to one of their own.

An Edina police officer was struck by a distracted driving early Wednesday morning while on the shoulder of Highway 169, just north of Londonderry Road, according to police.

The officer and the driver of the other vehicle were both wearing their seatbelts at the time and thankfully, only suffered minor injuries.

Police say they were taken to Fairview Southdale Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Citations were issued to the distracted driver.

The State Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
