State Patrol asks for public's help in I-694 hit-and-run

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a passing car on I-694 early Friday morning.

VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. – A woman was fatally struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on Interstate 694 early Friday morning, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. when a woman crashed her car into a guardrail. Lt. Kevin Skalsky of the Minnesota State Patrol said at that time, and for some unknown reason, the woman left her car and entered the lanes of traffic where she was struck by a smaller red car in the eastbound lane of I-694 under Edgerton Street.

Officials say the red car fled the scene, following the crash.

The State Patrol is looking for a 2013 to 2016 red Audi.

Skalsky said witnesses on the scene identified the suspect vehicle as a red Audi and a video taken after the crash confirms that detail. However, they were unable to make out an exact license plate from that video.

They say the suspect vehicle struck the pedestrian near the Little Canada and Vadnais Heights border. Investigators are hoping to talk to the driver of the suspect vehicle and say that person may not have known they struck a person.

The victim was identified as 38-year-old Aelicia Taylor of St. Paul.

The State Patrol said the road was wet at the time of the crash.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, Vadnais Heights Fire Department and State Patrol all responded to the scene.

An investigation continues. The State Patrol states more information will be released as it becomes available.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Minnesota State Patrol at 651-582-1509.
