Stolen credit card scam targets Chisago Co. businesses

Wyoming Police posted pictures on their Facebook page of a man they say is using stolen credit cards to purchase nearly $10,000 in Visa gift cards from Casey's Gas Station and Convenience stores in Wyoming, Stacy, Chisago City and North Branch.

WYOMING, Minn. - Investigators in a number of Chisago County communities hope that some very clear surveillance pictures will lead to the capture of a man who has taken area businesses for thousands and thousands of dollars.

Investigators in Chisago County are looking for this man, who they say is using stolen credit cards to buy nearly $10,000 in prepaid Visa gift cards.

Wyoming Police posted pictures on their Facebook page of a man they say is using stolen credit cards to purchase nearly $10,000 in Visa gift cards from Casey's Gas Station and Convenience stores in Wyoming, Stacy, Chisago City and North Branch. Investigator Scott Thomas says the crimes took place on July 10 and 11, and adds that the suspect was so bold he hit the Casey's in Chisago City twice on the same morning.

Investigators in Chisago County are looking for this man, who they say is using stolen credit cards to buy nearly $10,000 in prepaid Visa gift cards.

Thomas says the suspect also used stolen cards around the same time frame in Pine City and Blaine. Detectives believe he may be using a card reader/burner to gather account information and passwords from the stolen cards, and then create new debit cards with the same pin numbers.

"We got a report from one of the victims that their credit card had been used," Wyoming PD Chief Paul Hoppe said. "Through the credit card companies, we were able to track multiple transactions."

Investigators in Chisago County are looking for this man, who they say is using stolen credit cards to buy nearly $10,000 in prepaid Visa gift cards.

Hoppe explained they favor using social media to get the word out about crimes like these.

"We also see about an 80 percent solve rate when we put those photographs and videos up on social media," Hoppe said. "So it's a very effective tool."
