'It's not me, it's you': Our breakup with the MN Wild

The team, the fans, it all just feels…over.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Can we talk about the Minnesota Wild? Yes, we know, it’s a touchy subject. To say that team has underperformed lately would be an understatement.

Sunday's four to nothing loss at home got the team booed off the ice. Yikes. Rena sat down today with the Star Tribune's Michael Rand to get his take on the turbulence.

Rena: "On a scale of 1-10 where are the wild right now?"

Michael: “Losing four nothing on Sunday to St. Louis, and just some of the quotes you hear coming out of the locker room right now, about effort, it just feels like their headspace is not good right now, so that's why I'd say kind of at a one or a two."

The Wild, who is precariously, and somewhat surprisingly, on the edge of the playoffs, have lost so many games recently that’s it’s painful to point out. So, instead, we’ll point fingers.

Rena: “Who’s fault is this? The players? Boudreau?

Michael: “He has an even longer track record of success than some of these players do, so I'd hesitate to say it's his fault. Ultimately, it's the guys on the ice and that's probably where the blame lies, ultimately."

Rena: “New GM is probably going to bring in a new coach at some point, so do we think Boudreau’s job is on the line this season?

Michael: “I think so. I think even before the season started this felt like a year of a lot of possible transition."

We won’t even get into the whole goalie situation. The bigger issue is with attitude. The team, the fans, it all just feels…over.

Michael: “They just kind of seem tired. Like the whole thing is just kind of done. Like they've gotten to the end of a relationship, and they're just kind of a like nah, this just isn't working anymore."

So it's not you, it's me. OK, maybe it's you. The point is, something clicked, and not in a good way. We're all just tired. Tired of being meh.

Michael: “I don't even feel like a lot of people are sad that this is kind of over. I think people are ready for something different even though this team has been in the playoffs so much."

Well, since you brought it up...how about them playoffs?

Michael: "They've won enough games to put themselves in this position, that even after all this bad stuff has happened, they're still in that spot. If you had to ask me though, are they going to make the playoffs? No."
