City of Stillwater asks for sandbagging volunteers

Volunteers would be laying polyethylene plastic sheeting, filling sandbags or placing sandbags.

STILLWATER, Minn. — The City of Stillwater is taking measures to prevent flooding, such as sandbagging and berm-building.

A berm is a type of dam meant to stop the passing of water.

The city used Facebook late Monday night to reach out to the community asking for volunteers to assist in the city's flood-fighting efforts.

The National Weather Service predicts the St. Croix River in Stillwater will reach minor flood stage tomorrow.

The post on Facebook says that the city is "extending" the sandbagging efforts already scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The post asks for help with sandbagging on those days and also berm-building on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Volunteers would be laying polyethylene plastic sheeting, filling sandbags or placing sandbags.

The post asks that volunteers register through the Community Thread on Facebook.

The Community Thread tab can be found on the City of Stillwater, Minnesota - Local Government Facebook page on the left-hand sidebar (on a desktop).
