Get your kid’s bike helmets checked

Bike helmets are one of the most important safety devices for protecting children and adults. Health Fair 11 is holding a Bike Helmet Clinic on May 11, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Experts will check helmets for children age 4 to 14.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. —

UPDATE: More than 120 parents and children attended the Health Fair 11 Bike Helmet Clinic held on May 11, 2019. Sixty-five helmets were inspected and fitted by experts with the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance. Six helmets deemed unsafe-for-use were sent to the "helmet graveyard." Thirty-five kids received replacement helmets courtesy of UCare!  For more information on bike helmet safety, check out this link.

Does your child’s bike helmet fit properly? Does the helmet she or he wore last year still work for this year? What strategies can parents use to convince their children to wear helmets?

KARE 11 is hosting the Health Fair 11 Bike Helmet Clinic on Saturday, May 11 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Parents are invited to bring their children (ages 4 – 14) and their current bike helmets. Experts with the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance will check helmet fits and talk with the children about why they need to wear the safety device every time they hop on their bike. UCare is providing up to 200 free replacement helmets.

Helmet fittings will be done on a first-come, first-served basis.  KARE 11 is located at 8811 Olson Memorial Highway in Golden Valley.

The Health Fair 11 Bike Helmet Clinic is made possible with support from the Brain Injury Alliance, UCare and KARE 11.
