HUGO, Minn. — The Washington County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help locating a loaded gun they say was left on top of a car and lost in the area of a Hugo elementary school.

Deputies took the report of a missing gun in the area of Oneka Elementary on Tuesday. The gun owner said he set it on top of his car, then drove off, forgetting it until he was in the area of I-35 and Highway 96.

Deputies searched the area using a K9, but did not find the gun. They are asking the public to watch for it and contact the sheriff's office if it's located.

The sheriff's office says the vehicle traveled the following route: Emmit Drive to Education Drive, north to Heritage Parkway, west to Elmcrest Avenue, south to Main Street, and then west to I-35 south.

The vehicle was never on the school property and all the students would have been in school at the time of the incident.
