MINNEAPOLIS — The Gophers softball team dug themselves into an early deficit but were able to put together a 4-run rally in the fourth inning to beat LSU 5-3 in game one of the NCAA Super Regional at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium in Minneapolis.
Allie Arneson's 2-RBI single snapped a 3-all tie as the Gophers took the 5-3 lead and never looked back.
Junior pitcher Amber Fiser pitched a complete game throwing a career-high 147 pitches along with seven strikeouts.
Senior outfielder Maddie Houlihan hit a solo home run in the third inning to tie the game at 1.
The Gophers will face the Tigers tomorrow night at 5 p.m. in game two of the best-of-three series. If necessary, a third game would be played at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
