Wild officials sign Jared Spurgeon to 7-year contract extension

ST PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Wild Manager Bill Guerin announced Saturday the team has signed Jared Spurgeon to a $53 million 7-year contract extension. 

During the 2018-2019 season, the 29-year-old defenseman maintained career highs in goals scored (14) and assists (29) across 82 games played. 

The Edmonton, Alberta native also maintains a record of 152 shots on goal and 91 hits - while leading his team in blocked shots at 145.

Minnesota signed Spurgeon as a free agent on Sept. 23, 2010. He was originally selected by the New York Islanders in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
