Sunday morning shooting in Mpls. becomes homicide

MINNEAPOLIS — The victim of an early morning shooting in Minneapolis Sunday has died of his injuries, making the case one of homicide. 

ShotSpotter technology notified Minneapolis Police just after 5:30 a.m. that gunfire had been detected on the 1800 block of Emerson Avenue North. When squads arrived on the scene they found 29-year-old Samale Ahmed Barkhadle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. 

Officers provided emergency aid until relieved by paramedics, and Barkhadle was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center. He died of his wounds later Sunday.  

The Minneapolis Police Department Crime Lab responded and processed the scene. Investigators from the Homicide Unit have taken over the investigation. 

No one is currently in custody.
