Man accused of damaging Mpls. Police cars

Police say he vandalized two squad cars parked in different spots downtown.

MINNEAPOLIS — A man is in custody and facing charges after Minneapolis Police say he damaged at least two parked squad cars Monday.

Officers were notified just after 9:30 a.m. that a squad parked on the 3rd Avenue side of City Hall was being damaged by an unknown man. By the time officers showed up the man was gone, but the side mirror of the vehicle showed fresh damage. A white T-shirt had also been left behind by the suspect.

Just under two hours later a passerby called 911 and reported that a man was throwing a Lyft electric scooter through the windshield of another squad parked in the area of 7th and Nicollet. The suspect was then seen pouring some sort of liquid onto the squad car.

He left another white T-shirt on the vehicle before running off.

Witnesses followed the suspect and relayed his location to dispatchers, who enabled officers to make an arrest just blocks from the site of the second vandalism incident.
