Esko football player dies after collapsing during football game

Esko Public Schools superintendent Aaron Fischer said Jackson Pfister passed away Friday evening after receiving emergency medical care for a cardiac event that happened near the end of a football game in Aitkin. He was eight days away from his 16th birthday. Snow and wet conditions on Saturday afternoon didn't stop Esko High School students from coming out to the football field to pay tribute to the late sophomore. Someone lay flowers, photos, signed footballs, a hockey puck and a baseball on the 50 yard line. Around the makeshift memorial, students cried and hugged each other. On Sunday afternoon the school district provided grief support at the high school for students, staff and members of the community. The district will also be providing support Monday when students return to school.

Diggs scored on plays in the first half that covered 51 and 62 yards, becoming the first player since Randy Moss in 2000 to post two touchdown receptions of 50-plus yards in one game for the Vikings. The Vikings play at Detroit next Sunday after losing their first two NFC North road games to Green Bay and Chicago.
