MINNEAPOLIS — On Monday the Minneapolis City Council is holding a public meeting on the Bring Your Own Bag ordinance.
The ordinance, proposed by Minneapolis Council Member Cam Gordon, would add a five cent charge on single-use plastic and paper bags, hoping to push more people to reusable bags and cut down on litter. People receiving food assistance would be exempt.
Minneapolis had attempted to pass a 'plastic bag ban' in 2017, but was blocked by a state law that prohibited plastic bag bans.
The hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. November 18 at the Minneapolis City Council Chambers.
