Man sentenced in heroin trafficking conspiracy in Mille Lacs

MILLE LACS, Minn. — A man was sentenced to 77 months in prison Tuesday for his role in a heroin trafficking conspiracy.

According to the U.S. District Attorney's Office, Tyrone James Nelson, 39, was sentenced in U.S. District in St. Paul, Minn. for a distribution conspiracy that targeted the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation and the surrounding communities.

According to court documents, Nelson obtained heroin from people in Minneapolis between December 2018 to Mat 2018 and then transported the drug to communities in and around the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation. Nelson, who was the main source and distributor in the Mille Lacs area, recruited Mille Lacs members and worked out of their homes.
