Car crash causes early morning power outages

About 1,600 people were without power around Crystal early Monday morning.

CRYSTAL, Minn. — An overnight car crash prompted power outages in several areas early Monday morning.

According to Crystal Police, a Mustang hit a utility pole right off Bass Lake Road near the Crystal Airport early Monday morning, wiping out the bottom portion of the pole. That crash caused a power outage that impacted customers in Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Minneapolis and New Hope.

Overnight, Xcel reported 1,600 customers were without power. By 6 a.m., that number was down to 15.

After hitting the pole, police say the car crashed into a flower and gift shop.

The driver has minor injuries and crews have towed the car from the scene. Police say they don't know what caused the crash.
