Twin Cities represent! James Beard Foundation announces Restaurant and Chef Award semifinalists

The Twin Cities boasts nine semifinal nominations across six categories.

MINNEAPOLIS — The James Beard foundation has rolled out its list of qualifying semifinalists for its 2020 restaurant and chef awards leading up to the 30th Annual James Beard Awards.

"The prestigious group of semifinalists represents a wide collection of culinary talent, from exceptional chefs and dining destinations across twelve regions to the Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Bar Program, Outstanding Baker, and a Rising Star Chef 30 years of age or under," the foundation says in a press release.

Representing the Twin Cities are a few local names you may be familiar with:

  • Outstanding bar: Colita, Minneapolis
  • Outstanding chef: Gavin Kaysen, Spoon and Stable, Minneapolis 
  • Outstanding pastry chef: Diane Moua, Spoon and Stable, Minneapolis 
  • Outstanding restaurant: Restaurant Alma, Minneapolis 
  • Rising Star Chef of the Year: Rikki Giambruno, Hyacinth, St. Paul, MN
  • Best Chef: Midwest: Steven Brown, Tilia, Minneapolis
  • Best Chef: Midwest: Daniel del Prado, Martina, Minneapolis
  • Best Chef: Midwest: Jamie Malone, Grand Café, Minneapolis
  • Best Chef Midwest: Christina Nguyen, Hai Hai, Minneapolis

The foundation says it will announce the final nominees for all of its award categories on March 25.
