Victim ID'd in deadly shooting at Coon Rapids Cub Foods parking lot

Officials say one man was arrested near the scene and taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids to be treated for minor injuries.

COON RAPIDS, Minn. — Authorities have identified the young man killed in a shooting Monday afternoon outside Cub Foods in Coon Rapids.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, Coon Rapids police were called to the Cub Foods on Northdale Boulevard just after 4:30 p.m. and found a man lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were administered but the victim, identified Monday as 19-year-old Staveonte El Brown of Coon Rapids, died on the scene.

Officials say a 19-year-old man from Andover was arrested near the scene and taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids to be treated for minor injuries. That suspect is currently jailed with charges pending. Police say there is no threat to the public.
