High-speed rollover crash kills one in Minneapolis

Police say the driver was operating at a high rate of speed when she lost control and was ejected from the vehicle.

MINNEAPOLIS — A woman is dead following a high speed rollover crash Tuesday morning in Minneapolis.

Police spokesman John Elder says squads were dispatched to the intersection of Glenwood and Xerxes avenues just after 5:30 a.m. after multiple calls reporting the sound of a crash.

When officers arrived at the scene they found a vehicle on its roof and the driver, described as an adult female in her mid-30s, ejected. She was declared dead on the scene.

Elder says the initial investigation shows the driver was headed eastbound down Glenwood Avenue at a high rate of speed when she lost control, apparently overcorrected and rolled the vehicle. Traffic investigators on the scene say the victim was pinned underneath the vehicle, and it appears she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators say the victim was traveling at a high rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle on a corner and rolled, ejecting her.

At this point it is unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Elder explained that the Hennepin County Medical Examiners Office will perform a toxicology screen when doing the autopsy, and the results won't be back for four to six weeks.
