Texas Longhorns quarterback David Ash (14) calls a timeout against the North Texas Mean Green during the first half at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Texas coach Charlie Strong announced on Wednesday that injury-riddled quarterback David Ash has decided to quit playing college football.

Ash was limited to three games last season due to several concussions before suffering another concussion in the third quarter of the Longhorns' season opener vs. North Texas.

Sophomore signal caller Tyrone Swoopes has taken over as Texas' starter. The Longhorns are 1-2 following losses to BYU and UCLA.

Ash finished his career with 4,728 yards and 31 touchdowns.
