Police chase leads to shots fired, crash near Chanhassen

The suspect crashed near the intersection of Highways 41 and 5 during the pursuit, and it took several hours of negotiating to get her out of the vehicle.

EXCELSIOR, Minn. — Police took one woman into custody Tuesday night following a chase and vehicle crash in Chanhassen.

The South Lake Minnetonka Police Department posted on Facebook that officers were pursuing the vehicle after they became aware it was associated with an outstanding warrant out of Illinois for an assault. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) say at least one officer fired their weapon during the pursuit, which ended when the vehicle crashed near the intersection of Highways 5 and 41 in Chanhassen.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that at least one officer fired a weapon. At this point it is unclear if the suspect also fired a weapon.

An army of officers gathered on scene and attempted to remove the suspect from her vehicle after it crashed. Police say she eventually got out and was taken into custody about 11:30.

Investigators told KARE 11's Michelle Baik officers also worked a secondary scene in Chanhassen on Highway 41 just south of Highway 7, but South Lake Minnetonka police did not clarify how that site is related to the crash scene.
