Woman sexually assaulted after St. Paul burglary

The victim told police she was sleeping when she heard someone pounding on her home's side door.

ST PAUL, Minn. — A woman was assaulted early on Monday morning in St. Paul's Mac-Groveland neighborhood.

According to St. Paul police, officers were called to a home in the 300 block of Snelling Avenue South just after 4:30 a.m. for a report of a sexual assault.

Officers spoke to the adult victim when they arrived in the area. She said she was sleeping when she heard someone pounding on her home's side door.

Then an unknown man tried to force his way into her home.

Police said the suspect stole money from the woman before pulling out a weapon and sexually assaulting her.

The suspect fled the home and the woman called 911, police said. Fire medics took the woman to Regions Hospital to be evaluated.

Officers secured the area and searched the neighborhood for the suspect, but have not found him as of Monday afternoon.

The man was described as African-American, 25 to 35 years old, between 5'10" and 5'11". Officials said he was wearing a black t-shirt, black pants with a zipper on the right leg and black boots with heavy soles. He has a dark complexion and a vertical scar from his sternum to his belt line, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at (651) 266-5685.
