SUPERIOR, Wis. — Engineers are working to determine the structural fitness of an apartment building in Superior, WI, following a partial collapse Thursday afternoon.
Superior police and firefighters were dispatched to the Franklin Apartments at 210 37th Ave. E. and discovered that a small section of the building had collapsed, with a main natural gas line being severed. Officers evacuated the apartments and an adjoining daycare while gas and power to the building was shut off.
Superior’s Fire Chief Camron Vollbrecht told KBJR/Northern News Now that the collapse happened over an old utility room that had two old boilers. He shared that two residents inside at the time of the collapse, and both got out safely.
The city’s structural engineer was called in to inspect the building, and eventually all residents were allowed to return to their apartments except those in two units that will undergo a bit more scrutiny.
No one was injured in the incident.
