Second alleged teen gunman charged in Minneapolis punk show shooting

In charges unsealed Wednesday, a 17-year-old from Mille Lacs County is charged with aiding and abetting 2nd-degree murder in death of August Golden, 35.

MINNEAPOLIS — A 17-year-old from Onamia, MN, is being held on charges stemming from a mass shooting at a Minneapolis backyard punk rock show in August 2023 that left one person dead and at least six others wounded.

The teen faces juvenile charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder, aiding and abetting first-degree assault, aiding and abetting second-degree assault and four counts of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon. He is scheduled to make a first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

August Golden, 35, died after being shot in the back at the concert at "Nudieland" - a backyard venue attended by members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Both suspects are accused of making derogatory epithets about the sexual orientation of other people at the concert.

According to the charging document, investigators matched DNA from a discarded cigarette butt found at the crime scene to the 17-year-old suspect. His alleged accomplice has since turned 18 and appeared in juvenile court Monday.

Prosecutors are beginning the process of certifying the suspects as adults to face charges in Hennepin County District Court. The second alleged gunman, now 17, will turn 18 in May.

KARE 11 is not naming the defendants until their cases are moved to adult court.
