1 killed, 1 injured in shooting just after midnight in Minneapolis

Police said a group of people were gathered in a parking lot on Cedar Avenue South when shots rang out Sunday morning.

MINNEAPOLIS — One man is dead and another was injured after a shooting that took place just after midnight in Minneapolis. 

According to a press release, police responded to a call about a shooting with two injured around 12:40 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived at a parking lot behind 901 Cedar Avenue South, they found a man in his 40s with potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds. 

Officers said they provided medical care to the man. He was then taken to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) where he later died. 

More information about the victim, including his name and cause of death, will be released by officials in the coming days. 

Police said a second injured man went to HCMC in a private vehicle. His injuries were described by officials as non-life-threatening. 

Preliminary information shows shots were fired across 9th Street at a group of people in the parking lot of 901 Cedar Avenue South, police said. Officials said an exchange of gunfire occurred.
