ST PAUL, Minn. — There's value in family stories and references to the past that live on through the generations.
And there is a treasured tale handed down in one local family that's turned into a book.
Travis Zimmerman, author of "How the Birds Got Their Songs" joined KARE 11 Noon to discuss the new book.
This story was handed down through the Zimmerman family and it features traditional knowledge from the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. It also features Grand Portage descendant Sam Zimmerman's vibrant illustrations that showcase his love and respect for feathered creatures.
Zimmerman is the site manager at the Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post.
