Hotel security checkpoint closed at MSP Airport

The checkpoint was open every day from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Instead of four, travelers now have three options of going through security at MSP Airport's Terminal 1.

The checkpoint connecting the Intercontinental Hotel MSP Airport to Terminal 1 is closed.

A spokesperson for TSA says the closure is due to significantly lower passenger volume that the other, larger checkpoints in Terminal 1. For example, last Thursday, just 74 people were screened in that spot.

Statement from the TSA:

"On a daily basis, TSA collaborates with the airlines and airport staff to maximize the effectiveness of our security checkpoint screening operations at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). While the hotel security checkpoint is used by some travelers, it consistently has significantly lower passenger volume than the other, larger checkpoints in MSP's Terminal 1. TSA will deploy its staffing resources to maximize the efficiency of screening operations to ensure full staffing at the busiest checkpoints at MSP."

Patrick Hogan, a spokesperson for MSP Airport says:

"We continue to advocate for keeping the public checkpoint at the hotel open, but at this point have not heard that the TSA will do so."
